B-Funk is a high energy instrumental quartet from Vancouver, influenced by the likes of Booker T and The MGs, Maceo Parker, Jimmy Smith, and Medesky, Martin and Wood amongst other champions of the Hammond B-3 Organ. Drummer Doug Jang had a vision to create a band that payed homage to the infectious grooves of the 60’s and 70’s funk and soul, yet had a modern sound. Truth be told, the agenda behind this band is ultimately about making your body move, groove and gettin’ down and dirty.

From New York, Soul Singer Lady Daisey Kicks Off Canadian Tour At Capones.

Lady Daisey, having toured across the States, now begins the Canadian portion of her tour at Vancouver’s Capones Restaurant September 2nd, 9pm. This will be one of the few places to catch an intimate performance of this talented performer before she’s selling out the huge venues. The bonus is that it’s FREE. There is no cover change for this show! Call Capones for reservations at 604-569-1770 or reserve online.

Lady Daisey has rocked venues around the globe – from small smokey clubs to massive hip hop festivals – her message is one of love and happiness, soulfully presented over head noddin’ Batsauce beats. Singing since she was 5, Lady Daisey has developed a playful powerhouse style that’s sure to grab the attention and steal the hearts of everyone within ear’s reach.
As much as Lady Daisey travels the globe, she’s learned to keep life simple and travel light. The most important things are weightless – love, life, music, inspiration, peace – all of which she keeps in her pocket (when she’s not wearing it on her sleeve)
Sharing her unique vision with an even more unique voice, Lady Daisey’s solo debut is filled with a sense of adventure, passionately singing about her experience as a woman, a traveler, a survivor, an optimist, a dreamer… all over hip-hop infused soul music.
It’s like sunshine for your soul…
After meeting the love of her life on stage (Batsauce – husband and producer) it seemed only natural to pack their bags and hit the road. With a studio small enough to fit in a backpack, they have written and recorded this album, all while bouncing around the States, Europe and Asia.
Both, Lady Daisey and Batsauce, are also part of the Smile Rays (Rawkus/6-Hole/Jakarta/Subcontact) along with Paten Locke (aka Therapy) After recording a track with George Clinton and being selected as Rawkus 50 artists, they quickly won the hearts of the indie hip hop scene. She’s opened for Sharon Jones, Mayer Hawthorne, Chali 2na, Roxanne Shante, Bahamadia, the Perceptionists. She’s rocked festivals around the world alongside the Roots, Method Man, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Muse, Souls of Mischief, Zion I.
This raised the bar and now it’s time for Lady Daisey to share her songs with the world. She does just that with her debut solo album “In My Pocket”

Kokosoul is a soulful duo that re-interprets classic music in R&B, Blues, Pop, Rock and Jazz. Karina Morin and Karl Oystensen will be performing live on the Capones Main Stage.

Karina Morin has made a life of singing, and now she wants to make singing her life. What began as a young girl singing for her own amusement in her bedroom has grown the soulful singer performing in jazz bands, girl groups, singing backup and leading cover bands to the point where she is about to launch her solo career and the release of her first solo music video. The Montreal-born singer is poised for the music video release of Follow My Heart, a single written by Vancouver singer/songwriter Cliff Howard. At the release party she will be singing some of her original songs, backed be her band Soul Assembly. Now a resident of Vancouver, Karina has been delivering her own brand of funkafied soul to the West Coast the past few months. However, her first stage performance was as a young singer at a national competition for youth talent called the “YTV Singing Contest”, where she ranked as a finalist. It was in high school that her music teacher discovered her naturally rhythmic and soulful singing abilities and decided to have her lead a 30-piece jazz band at the annual Montreal Children’s Hospital benefit concert, – something she did for four years. After high school, she continued to hone her soulful R&B vocals by singing in several pop groups, culminating with her being selected to sing in the all-girl group Jai. In 2001, the group released its first single entitled “Checkin’ Me Out.” Jai was added to the play lists of several radio stations across Canada and was profiled on several local television shows such as Global news and CTV’s Pulse news as well as the Montreal Gazette newspaper, the News and the Mirror magazine. The group performed as a featured artist on the Much Music Electric Circus, a nationally-syndicated dance and music show. Karina eventually moved on to become the female lead singer in several soul and R&B dance bands and headlined at some of the top Montreal dance clubs as well as over seas. In 2004, Karina made it as a semifinalist on the CTV television show Canadian Idol and was even featured prominently in the show’s publicity advertisements. Not long after her “Idol” experience, Karina signed on as a back up singer for Quebec and France’s top leading male artist, Corneille. She toured with his band throughout the spring and summer months in France, the Caribbean and La Reunion, Africa. To further her training in music, theatre, dance and acting, Karina recently attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, B.C. Karina is now ready to unleash her nu-jazz soul vibe to the world as an emerging solo artist.

He started on the electric organ and later left it behind. To the amazement of many, the simple electronic grooves lingered, leaving a lasting impression and early fuel for the rhythmic master. As the electric bass developed into an extension of his hands and his voice a rhythmic center of its own, Dino DiNicolo became a master musician with a groove so deep that it moves the mind, the body and the soul.

Musically, Dino has captivated listeners around the world. With his humility, innate charisma and honest good-looks, he leaves a mark wherever he performs. His career has taken him to the countries of Hawaii, Japan, Grand Cayman and New Zealand and across the continents of Europe and North America. Those people who have heard his music are always wanting more.

He grooves comfortably in many styles of music and has been a contributor to a variety of projects. As a performer, session player and composer, he has worked with – EMI Publishing Canada, Supertonic, Uno Mas, John Parr, Danielle Herbert, Riley and the Rise, Melanie Dekker, Vancouver’s own The Town Pants and Sherry St. Germain.

Dino has also forayed into the movie industry. In addition playing jazz with Michael Moriarty of the show Law and Order. Dino enjoyed the experience of playing a role in the Disney TV show So Weird. His song “Nothing to Fear” was used in a TV pilot Snug as a Bug. He is enjoying the completion of Beautiful a thirteen song CD of original music. Recently he can be seen going to and from the post office notifying festivals all around the world that he wants to play.

The impressive list of accomplishments continues to grow from the man who never stops: Dino DiNicolo.

During this time, he has developed a powerful blues guitar and singing style that is instantly recognized by his steadily growing audience. In 1997, Steve began to lay the groundwork for forming his powerful blues band Mud Dog. His vision was to pay tribute to blues masters such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker with a fiery contemporary blues sound. However, Sainas has evolved into an inspired songwriter and producer testifying his own life experiences through his songs that echo the sounds of the Mississippi Delta. In March 2003, Mud Dog released its debut CD “Devil’s Ride” at the Terry Fox Theatre to a house full of excited fans. “Devil’s Ride” features eleven original songs written and produced by Sainas, as well as two traditional arrangements. The CD is receiving regular airplay coast to coast. Five years later, Mud Dog released their second CD “River of My Soul” that features eleven new original acoustic songs written and produced by Sainas. Fans and reviewers describe “River of My Soul” as Mud Dog’s best CD so far.

“River of My Soul”, takes you on a gentler journey of the Blues, one which will leave you with a genuine feeling that you are listening to something refreshing and new… “River of My Soul” is a must have CD for any fan of the Blues.

Dave Davies is an accomplished musician with over 30 years performance experience. One of the few, true Vancouverites, Dave began his career here, on stage at the famed Cave Supper Club where he backed the internationally acclaimed singer, Dorothy Moore, best known for her chart topping tune “Misty Blue”.

Dave is a saxophone player extraordinaire who developed his remarkable talents through study with many master musicians. His versatilty encompasses not only jazz, but also jazz/fusion, R&B, pop, bebop, swing, surf and salsa. His ability to “read” and to the “lay the room” has made him a favourite at special and corporate events (including events for CIBC and BCAA), at clubs (including The Commodore, The Glass Slipper, The Purple Onion, The Cellar and The Jupiter) and in some of Vancouver’s finest restaurants (such as Uforia, The Alibi Room, Ouizi’s Bistro, the Cotton Club)

Dave’s joy for music, his pure saxophone talent and his “warm, soulful and controlled sound” has been heard in many private clubs, such as the Shaughnessy Gold & Country Club. He showcases his punchy, angular, jazz sounds when jamming at coffee houses like The Amsterdam, and at jazz bars on Commercial Drive. He has also delighted in displaying his well-honed talent at numerous music festivals including Sonic Boom and at the Maple Ridge Jazz & Blues Festival.

Over his career, Dave has played with the best in the buisness- whether while touring across Canada or doing session work in the recording studio. Over the years he has been able to combine some of the best musical talent in the Pacific Northwest to form the Dave Davies Duo/Trio/Quartet and The Dave Davies Jazz Ensemble. That range and diversity allow Dave to provide the best sound and show, whatever the venue.

Not only is Dave an axxomplished performer, but he is also a seasoned teacher and composer. His own sound ranges from mainstream jazz and smooth jazz waltzes, to edgy, jazz/bebop strains that tease the ear.

What ever the need, whether for engaging background music from a soloist, duo or trio, for sophisticated dance floor tunes, or for centre stage showstoppers, Dave can deliver the best in uncompromising smooth, classic jazz standards, (with or without vocals) and easy jazz/fusion melodies.
