Phyllis Adel

Phyllis Adelyne formerly known as Phyllis Adel is a singer/songwriter who attended the Maritime Conservatory of Music in Halifax, NS, but is mostly self-taught. She comes by her talent naturally from a background of singers/musicians in her family.  She is a gifted soprano and alto vocalist whose influences include Billie Holliday, Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin. Specializing in jazz, gospel and R&B, Phyllis has a unique and ultra-funky style.

Phyllis Adelyne is a well-known Vancouver musician, having been a featured artist in Vancouver Jazz Festivals as well as a performer in the opening ceremony for the Molson Indy Races. Phyllis performs in a range of local festivals in Cloverdale and New Westiminster. Phyllis has also performed musical numbers for movies, including Outer Limits, Holiday Hearts, and License to Wed.  Never shy to the public eye, Phyllis has hosted a community event program on Roger’s Television and a musical program on CFRO for several years. Phyllis is choir director of the Unity Gospel Choir of Vancouver doing outreach work and for the past 4 years has organized Black History Month productions with music and spoken word.  She is a natural entertainer and known to captivate a crowd when performing.

Phyllis has a song list that boasts over 350 cover songs as well as original material.  Accompanied from a range of 2 to 10 musicians, Phyllis continually enhances local musicians’ recordings with her harmonious background vocals. Reviews by The Vancouver Sun call her dynamic, with a voice that soars like a bird and an overall great performer.  She has aspirations to one day record a compilation of her original gospel songs; the title of the cd will be “It’s All In His Time”.
